Naturopathic physician Dr. Emmanouil Karampahtsis has been practicing hormone balancing and anti-aging medicine for five years. Hormones can affect your health and well being in several different ways. Many physicians address their patients’ symptoms by prescribing different medications rather than treating the true cause of the problem, which is an imbalance in hormones. Hormonal imbalance can be the underlying cause of the following devastating symptoms: □ Low Energy/ Fatigue □ Weight Gain □ Anxiety/ Depression □ Headaches □ Insomnia/ Disturbed sleep □ High blood pressure/ Low blood pressure □ Elevated Cholesterol □ Hair Loss/ Thinning of hair/ Excess body hair □ Loss of sexual drive/ Low libido □ Loss of muscle mass/ Weak muscles □ Dry Skin/Aging Skin/ Sagging Skin □ Poor Memory □ Low Blood Sugar □ Irregular Menstrual Cycles □ Infertility □ Erectile Dysfunction □ Hot Flushes/ Night sweats □ Impaired cognitive function □ Osteoporosis □ Inflammation/ Joint pain Lipogenex Anti-Aging Center provides complete testing, diagnosis, and balanced treatments for hormonal issues. According to the symptoms and nature of the problem, we work with many compounding pharmacies to customize the proper combination of hormones and suggest the proper method of delivery. Methods of delivery that are being used are: sublingual, trans-dermal, oral, trans-mucosal, intra-muscular injections, sub-cutaneous injections and nano-technology sublingual preparations. Hormone Pellets Many patients ask about our opinion on hormone injectable pellets as a method of administration. Dr Karampahtsis utilized this method four years ago and very soon realized that it is not a complete and balanced method of delivery. Certain hormones can not be compounded into pellets and patients have to take them in other forms of administration which defeats the purpose of convenience. The biggest problem with this method is the myth that the body has the ability to draw from the pellet only the amount of hormones necessary for its daily needs. Dr Karampahtsis observed in his own patients, as well as in patients treated by other physicians with this method, that the above is far from the truth. All lab testing performed (blood, saliva, urine) showed elevated levels of the hormones implanted, significantly out of normal or optimal range, very soon after the onset of implantation; moreover, there is no “regular” treatment period as suggested by many physicians as in every 3-4 months. Several patients had to wait six to nine months for the levels of their hormones to return to normal or optimal levels. The above clinical observations show that the “peaks and lows” of the levels of the hormones were much higher when administered this way. Other adverse symptoms and side effects observed by Dr Karampahtsis when hormones are administered in pellets were: uterine bleeding in post menopausal women, facial hair growth in women, conversion of estradiol and testosterone to other more potent and potentially more dangerous metabolites, histological changes in uterus and breast tissue in women, weight gain in women, hair loss in males. The need for more aggressive monitoring and treatment of the side effects caused by this method of delivery renders this method as ineffective and not the method of choice for treatment of hormonal imbalances. Dr. Karampahtsis has not yet seen a patient who was treated with pellets by another physician have a balanced hormonal system and significant relief of symptoms. Common mistakes in HRT The most common mistakes seen in our office when it comes to HRT (hormone replacement therapy) which lead to other symptoms, side effects, or ineffective treatment are the following: □ Inappropriate method of testing □ Optimal versus “within normal range” test results □ Inadequate testing of all hormones to alleviate symptoms □ Replacement of only one or two of the hormones instead of a balance approach □ Inappropriate method of delivery □ Use of synthetic versus bio-identical hormones □ Inappropriate ratios of hormones prescribed □ Prescribing hormones only according to symptoms □ Inappropriate levels of hormones prescribed (too high or too low) If you suffer from a condition or experience symptoms that might be related to a hormonal imbalance please contact our office to schedule a free consultation to see if we are able to help you.
